Behind the Rental Bike That Defines Taiwan’s Urban Experience (#劉麗珠) ǀ In Her Shoes S2

Taipei boasts one of the world’s best public bicycle rental systems, YouBike. While the system has now become a cultural symbol of the Taiwanese urban experience, it wasn’t all smooth sailing from the beginning. Vicky Liu, the chairperson of Cycling Lifestyle Foundation, took charge of its operation when YouBike was struggling with a deficit of US$1.6 million a year. Through down-to-earth observation and user-centered innovation, Vicky transformed YouBike as well as Taipei’s commuting landscape. Learn more about how Vicky transitioned from a homemaker to one of the most influential figures in Taiwan’s bike industry. “In Her Shoes” introduces leading women in Taiwanese society, spanning fields from fashion and art to business and sports. Explore the lives of these extraordinary women, what drives them, and how they have overcome personal challenges to excel in their careers and reach the top of their professions.
